Looking Skin-Tastic

The Skin Center Of North Carolina Specializes In You

BY COURTNEY MCLAUGHLIN

Looking as good as you feel no longer has to mean highly invasive medical procedures with lengthy downtimes. There are now many surgical and nonsurgical options to help your skin look and feel its best. Dr. Briggs E. Cook Jr., founder of The Skin Center of North Carolina, strives to educate his patients on the options available today.

Dr. Cook, who is certified with the American Board of Ophthalmology and a Fellow of the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery specializing in Facial Plastic Surgery, opened the surgical and medical day spa three years ago. “We wanted people to be able to go somewhere for cosmetic conditions [specifically] of the face and neck,” he says. He and his knowledgeable staff serve patients with three offices in Charlotte, Huntersville, and Winston-Salem.

Dr. Cook meets with each patient, listens to his or her concerns and expectations, and then talks about their options. His patients come to him with a variety of skin concerns — sagging jowls and necks, and sometimes a complaint that “their eyes feel heavy.”

Fashionably Expecting

The Bump Maternity Boutique Brings Style To Pregnancy

BY MELINDA JOHNSTON

If you’re a mommy-to-be with a baby bump, you need to flaunt it. At least that’s the advice of Clair Robinson, owner of The Bump Maternity Boutique, one of the area’s newest maternity stores.

“You don’t have to hide behind oversized clothes any more,” Robinson says. “Today’s maternity clothes accentuate the belly with lots of form-fitting and ruched styles that will grow with you, but also fit after your baby is born.”

Robinson started the Fort Mill store after searching for maternity wear through two pregnancies of her own. “During my first pregnancy, I tried to go as long as I could without maternity clothes,” she says. “I hit five months and couldn’t get my pants on. I finally got a pair of maternity jeans and thought, Why did I wait so long? I was so much more comfortable, I felt so much better, and I was able to enjoy my pregnancy. That’s exactly what we want to do for our mommies-to-be.”
