I've enjoyed Today's Charlotte Woman for some time, but your February 2010 issue held special significance for me. I was at the airport on my way to Paris (Tenn., via Memphis) to help move my father to a nursing home. It wasn't something I was looking forward to. A young woman at the gate graciously offered me her copy of TCW. As I took it, the pages fell open to Leigh Barrett's lovely essay about her dad, and the cranberry vest she'd made for him. In that moment, it seemed as if her article had been placed there just for me. Thank you, and please tell Ms. Barrett that her essay gave me great comfort that day.

Thank you for the wonderful article showcasing Amber Koonce — the Girl Scouts Hornets' Nest Council's Young Woman of Distinction — as Tomorrow's Charlotte Woman. We are all very proud of Amber and look forward to following and celebrating her successes.

Yours in Girl Scouting,

Eileen Hewitt, Hornets' Nest Girls Scout Council, Director of Marketing and Communications

As an avid reader and lover of words, I just had to say that Todays Charlotte Woman never fails to delight me with its playful and humorous headlines. It’s the little things that count — and TCW does it well. Along those lines, I found “Just Say Cheese” (love it) in the January 2010 issue to be especially helpful.

I wanted to thank writer Lee Rhodes for doing such a great job writing the article on Johnson & Wales University and me in the November 2009 issue. I have had many tell me what a great article it is, and that is because it was so well written. Thanks!

Wanda Cropper, Johnson & Wales University Director, Assistant Dean, College Of Culinary Arts

Just wanted to write this short note to let you know how much my family and I enjoyed reading “We Gather Together,” in the November 2009 issue. It shows that even in these hard times, family, traditions, and love will always continue.

Thank you for sharing your faith and believe in Christ in the Holiday 2009 issue. It was such an encouragement to me. I look forward to each edition of the magazine!

Karen M. Williams

I just wanted to personally thank you for putting together the online version of the Web article, “Beautiful Dreamers.” It featured me, alongside some of Charlotte’s finest women, and it was a blessing and an honor to have been chosen. Thank you kindly for supporting local artists such as myself. I look forward to working with you and the wonderful staff of Todays Charlotte Woman again in the future. Go and shine!

I wanted to tell you what a remarkable impact your September 2009 cover story on Community School of the Arts has had. We linked to it in our e-newsletter, and have had countless comments, notes, and e-mail messages from supporters and parents saying how wonderful it is. In addition, dozens more have called after they picked it up or saw it in doctors’ offices or grocery stores. Our board is newly energized by the visibility, and we made reprints to give to our donors, who are thoroughly impressed. Student enrollment this fall was on track to set a new school record, despite us having to slash our marketing budget. In a tough economy, your generosity to us is helping garner support, enroll students, and fulfill our mission to the community.

Andi Stevenson, Director, Community School Of The Arts

Just wanted to tell you that Stephanie and I loved the article! It is wonderful. I think it’s my favorite story ever done on us and The Must-Have Mom Manual. Thanks so much for your hard work!

Sara Ellington Behnke (and Stephanie Triplett), Authors,         The Must-Have Mom Manual

I was absolutely thrilled to see a Girl Scout featured in your “Tomorrow’s Charlotte Woman” section in May 2009. So often, the newspapers give so much coverage to area boys who achieve the Eagle Scout Award, and the girls who achieve the Girl Scout Gold Award are never mentioned — even though the same percentage earn these awards. It was inspiring to read about Kashmira Kale, and I hope to see future mentions of Girl Scouts in your magazine.

Jill Sisskind

Congratulations on your awards. I recently commented to my sister about how well the magazine was done.

As your award winner for “Mom’s the Word Contest,” I pray that you continue to be successful in producing a magazine which all woman can relate to and enjoy. My overnight stay at the Ballantyne Hotel & Lodge was on May 21, and it was wonderful.

As the primary caregiver for my mother who has Alzheimer’s, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, etc., I am physically, mentally, and emotionally in need of rest. So I thank you!

Thank you for featuring Nettie Reeves in your magazine and on the cover of the January issue. She is truly an inspiration to so many people, both young and old, and her passion for fitness is not just a fad, but a way of life. To know her is to love her. Thank you for sharing the story — the community appreciates it.

Cheryl Moore

Thank you, thank you, thank you! I can’t express enough appreciation to you for featuring Nettie Reeves — a woman of integrity and class. Reeves is one of the most positive role models in the Charlotte community, and she often does not get recognized enough for the impact she has on lives. Her motivation alone puts her up there with the best. When I see the community tip its hat to her, a huge smile comes across my face.

I recently stayed at the Charlotte Westin Hotel, and I took home the complimentary October/November 2008 edition of Today's Charlotte Woman. I have since read it cover to cover, and I was enriched and inspired by it. My husband is a radiologist, and his specialty is mammograms and breast biopsies. I hope they can implement some of the techniques your magazine recommends to help women through such a difficult time. I really enjoyed the Bernadette Sanders story, "Dance Yourself Well." Another feature, "Follow The Leader," was a great example of how women are paving the way for other women to excel with confidence and determination.

Belva Greenage is also in my prayers for a full cancer recovery.

Ellen Willson Hoover’s piece “Casting Your Net: Secrets Of A Reluctant Networker” in Today’s Charlotte Woman’s August Resource Guide was very valuable. The eight “networthy” methods appear to be both simple and effective. That’s always a great foundation for efficiency.

Owen Lawson

Thanks so much for the great September issue. I’m on the executive committee of the board of the Arts & Science Council, and we so appreciate the celebration of arts in this issue, and the specific mention of ASC’s anniversary.

Belva’s “Publisher’s Note” said it so well — how fortunate we are to have such a vibrant and growing arts community in Charlotte!
